Flat Head Syndrome (Plagiocephaly)
Hushamok Hammocks are designed to conform to babies head which helps to prevent flat head syndrome.
Positional plagiocephaly or ‘flathead syndrome’ can occur when a baby's head develops a flat spot. This occurs when babies spend a considerable amount of time with their head resting in the same position. In the early '90s, parents have been told to put their babies to sleep on their back to reduce the risk of SIDs. Since then experts have also noted a fivefold increase in the incidence of misshapen heads.
Babies are born with soft, pliable skulls, so when they rest in the same position on a regular basis, their head can develop a flat spot where it presses against a mattress as found in typical cribs and bassinets.
Infant Acid Reflux
To prevent acid reflux in infants, pediatricians recommend keeping baby's head slightly elevated. Without the use of potentially harmful pillows or other objects hushamok™ design provides an elevation that will reduce the symptoms of acid reflux.

A million babies around the world have enjoyed the warmth, comfort and soft feel of New Zealand Bowron lambskins since it was first developed over thirty years ago.
We are now pleased to offer the Hushamok Lambskin liner by Bowron, manufactured in NZ and made specifically for babies. The Lambskin Underlay can be used with both the baby hammock as well as MySeat.  To use it as an underlay in the Hushamok hammock simply place the lambskin underneath the mattress for the added comfort of a natural wool sleeper.  If you are using the Hushamok Lambskin Underlay in the Hammock this should be placed UNDERNEATH the mattress. Baby should never sleep with direct face to wool contact on the lambskin liner.  The lambskin liner is also designed to be used on the Hushamok Myseat making it ultra-plush for your child.  Please note that the underlay should not be used when using the neck support and/or harness system.

Q & A

Are Hushamok Baby Hammocks Safe?
Hushamok use is in line with the recommendations in the prevention of SIDS and babies should ALWAYS be placed on their backs. The natural balance and motion of the hammock sometimes means baby can shift in the hammock.  Hushamok recommends baby is swaddled to minimize babies movement. Should baby slide to the side of the hammock simply reposition baby so that he/she lies in the center of the Hammock.
Has the Hushamok Baby Hammock been tested for safety?
The Hushamok Experience has been tested and passed under the US Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) Certification Program.
What makes Hushamok Baby Hammocks different from a crib or bassinet?
The difference between a hammock and cribs or Moses baskets is the way the baby is held and supported. Before a baby is born, they are held very tightly in the womb and experience a lot of movement. Once they are born, flat and static surfaces such as cribs are foreign to babies – they are accustomed to a warm womb environment. Hushamok Baby Hammock has been designed to mimic womb like environment.  The leafspring which is unique to Hushamok reproduces provides a gentle rhythmic, gently rocking motion which helps babies sleep better and longer.
How is Hushamok different than other baby hammocks?
The unique design reduces strain on baby’s spine and nerves by maintaining the natural primary curve of the spine.  Other baby hammocks have no form which could compromise babies breathing and spinal support. Hushamok’s design and the addition of the EVA foam insert conform to babies shape and prevent any dipping in the middle.

Yes, all parts can be washed. There are care labels on the hammock and mattress, and also in the instruction booklet and website.
Can my baby move in the hammock?
Hushamok designs are also inspired by hammocks movement, so it will be natural for baby to experience some motion and movement.  Hushamok does not recommend using any pillows, wedges or positioners in the hammock as these may pose a suffocation risk to baby.  The Hushamok hammock motion bed design has an upright, angled position assisting babies with natural sleep, colic and reflux.
Should I be concerned about the bedding being treated with flame retardant chemicals?
The Hushamok Baby Hammock has not been treated with any fire retardant chemicals. Our mattress cover is made from 100% cotton fabric. The natural cotton is pure natural cotton and we even have a natural color that has not been treated with any dyes.
Can the Hushamok Baby Hammock be used in the day and night?
Yes, it for a full time bed for both day and night sleeps. The more a baby uses the hammock, the more they learn to self-soothe and go to sleep unaided.
Is there a warranty?
We have a 1 year warranty on all parts against factory defects.
